University of Alberta International Student Emergency Bursary and Loan Fund (includes interest-free loans for newly arrived students)

The fund has two parts. The Emergency Loan Fund gives interest-free loans for short-term essential living costs when money you expect is delayed; the page's typical cases include new students on graduate assistantships arriving from countries whose currency controls stop them bringing enough money for initial expenses, and students whose foreign scholarship payments are delayed. You repay the loan in full when the expected money arrives. Emergency bursaries cover verifiable emergencies, such as an unexpected essential expense or an unexpected cut in funding. Neither covers tuition and fees, or costs that should have been budgeted for before coming to Canada. The page states no amount.
