The Miles Morland Foundation announces the opening of applications for the Morland Writing Scholarship 2026, a financial grant dedicated to supporting African writers and enabling them to devote themselves to writing the first draft of an entire book in English. The scholarship aims to help writers who have difficulty combining writing and work to cover living expenses. The winner receives financial support worth £18,000, paid monthly over 12 months. Writers working on non-fiction books who need additional time for research can receive, at the Foundation’s discretion, support for up to 18 months. The scholarship accepts novel and non-fiction book proposals for adults, and gives winners the opportunity to write full-time and benefit from potential career mentoring from an established writer or publisher after completing the work. The winner receives: a financial grant worth £18,000. The grant is paid in monthly installments for 12 months. Possibility of extending support for non-fiction books up to 18 months if the work requires additional research. Dedicate yourself to writing the first draft of an entire book. Possibility of obtaining professional guidance from a well-known writer or publisher. Freedom to choose where to live and work during the scholarship period. Continued payments if a draft is completed early while the writer works on editing and improving it.
