2021: Palestine Solidarity Statement by lecturers at Leiden University — Dutch Scholars for Palestine 0 Palestine SOLIDARITY STATEMENT May 2021 Letter initiated by lecturers at Leiden University Nederlands hoger onderwijs solidair met Palestijnen Dutch higher education in solidarity with Palestine Wij zijn wetenschappers en docenten in het Nederlandse hoger onderwijs en wij nemen stelling tegen de voortdurende ontheemding, bezetting en oorlog waaraan de staat Israël Palestijnen onderwerpt. Op de Nakbaherdenking, 73 jaar na de gedwongen uitzetting van Palestijnen uit hun huizen in wat nu Israël is, tonen wij ons solidair met alle Palestijnen. Onze steun gaat uit naar Palestijnen in Gaza, de Westelijke Jordaanoever en Israël, alsook naar de zeven miljoen vluchtelingen over de hele wereld, ook in Nederland, onder wie onze collega’s en studenten. De indruk dat dit een conflict is tussen twee gelijke zijden is een gevaarlijke vertroebeling van de werkelijkheid: het leidt af van de realiteit dat het de Palestijnen zijn die leven onder militaire bezetting, die ontheemd zijn, en die leven als tweederangsburgers in een systeem van segregatie dat volgens zowel B’tselem als Human Rights Watch in feite neerkomt op apartheid. Dit soort geweld en discriminatie vormen de oorzaak van de geweldsescalatie die nu plaatsvindt. We roepen de Nederlandse regering op erop toe te zien dat gerechtigheid geschiedt voor de Palestijnen en dat hun volledige rechten worden gewaarborgd. Dit is de enige mani
