Apply Now Request Info Academics Graduate Programs TESOL - Graduate Diploma Program Overview The diploma program is designed for qualified teachers of English who meet the same admission requirements as those for the Master of Arts degree. A diploma requires completion of a total of six courses and full-time students can finish it in one year. Students come from a variety of backgrounds. It is designed for those with or without previous teaching experience and whose English language proficiency is adequate for graduate work and teaching the language at various levels. Admission Requirements Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages (TESOL) - MA Learning Outcomes The primary mission of the program is to prepare superior teachers of English as a foreign or second language. It aims to engage students in the most modern theoretical understanding of linguistics and cross-cultural studies in English-teaching environments, develop leadership capabilities, develop teachers and administrators who are lifelong learners, and encourage student participation in inquiry to advance new knowledge in the discipline. We train our students in both theoretical linguistics and applied linguistics. Career Paths and Practical Experience Since its inception in 1966 (as a joint collaboration with Teachers’ College, Columbia University at that time), the MA TESOL program has been serving AUC, Egypt, and the Middle East at large through educating qualified language professionals who can competently work in different instructional settings. The program label at this time was Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and was changed to Teaching English to Teachers of Other languages (TESOL) in 2015. The name change was necessary to reflect the changes in the linguistic landscape worldwide and also to better improve the employability of our graduates. The TESOL graduates are highly sought after in Egypt and the Middle East. Many of our graduates also work in academic positions in different universities in the Middle East, the US, and worldwide.
